There's no place like home for Oz Festival

It is exciting that the Wizard of Oz Festival is coming back to Chesterton this year! How nostalgic to return the festival to Chesterton.

Reps. Dobis, Soliday are tax-and-spend pols

Northwest Indiana residents must call for a special election referendum to oust flagrant tax-and-spend snake-oil salesmen state Reps. Chet Dobis and Ed Soliday. These two culprits have been playing fast and loose with our tax dollars for far too long.

Tell senators to vote against hate crimes bill

Why does Congress want to give special governmental protection to male cross-dressers, homosexuals and pedophiles in a bill that seems designed to threaten our freedom of speech and religion and any clergy who preach from the Bible concerning these lifestyles?

Jada stories showed proper news priorities

I would just like to express my appreciation for your front page and extensive articles on the tragic news of little Jada Justice.

Lawmakers shouldn't be paid extra for special session

Why do the taxpayers of Indiana have to foot the bill for food and lodging for our state government officials to do their job by passing the budget? They were elected to do this -- special session or not. This is their job. Nobody pays for my food when I go to work and do my job.

National health care works well elsewhere

National health care dominates the current national debate. Of course, the cons will be making noise about freedom, an idea that the vested interests will link to specious arguments to make them appealing. Indeed, progressive nations like Switzerland, Scandinavian countries, Germany and others are making it work, without citizens suffering from lack of freedom.

Let's move quickly on Illiana Expressway

The word on the street is that the feasibility study on the Illiana Expressway will be released sometime in the first part of July. I can hardly wait to read it.

Will you take the dare to dream?

Ivy Tech and our sister institutions recently helped launch the "Dare to Dream: One Region/One Vision" initiative because, quite frankly, we don't have all the answers. Funded by the Knight Foundation through our Gerald I. Lamkin Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, this initiative will help Northwest Indiana prepare for the future.
