Nonprofit organization.

Mission: The mission of Rabbits Rock Our Domain is to provide safe and informative education to people young and old. RROD's purpose is to provide a home for unwanted domesticated rabbits. The group provides loving care and a place for rabbits to feel secure.

Special events: Rabbits Rock Our Domain accepts unwanted domesticated rabbits from local animal clinics and shelters as well as owner surrenders. The group works with 4-H clubs and offers educational demonstrations and workshops along with rabbit-themed birthday parties. RROD provides rabbit-shaped invitations and birthday cake, leads a variety of rabbit-themed games to help educate children and brings one rabbit for interaction with party-goers.

Advice: "A domesticated rabbit cannot live in the wild. I would rather people contact us, not dump it someplace," said RROD president Sharon Buchmeier.

How to get involved: For information on Rabbits Rock Our Domain, contact Sharon Buchmeier at (219) 669-9098.

People might be surprised to know: "That there is a rabbit rescue around, most people don't know (about us)," said Sharon Buchmeier.
