HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR

Land donation to allow park district to expand

The Homewood-Flossmoor Board of Park Commissioners last month received a 3-1/2-acre land donation from Governors Investments LLC.

The property runs parallel to Governors Highway from the south end of Hillcrest Park to the north end of the parking lot of the Ingalls Diagnostic Center at 17901 S. Governors Highway.

The heavily wooded land lies primarily in a flood plain, said Debbie Kopas, the park district's executive director,

While specific plans for the property have not been decided, Kopas said the park district is considering more parking for Hillcrest Park and a walking/biking trail that would connect the Governors Park and Scandia areas of Homewood.

Hillcrest Park -- located at Locust Road and Rockwell Avenue -- features a playground, ball field, picnic area, sledding hill and soccer field.

For more information on the project, call (708) 957-0300.
