EAST CHICAGO -- Hundreds of Latino teens had a sampling of job prospects with law enforcement agencies at the second annual Hispanic Education Rally this morning at East Chicago Central High School.
The program included a host of speakers, including Lake County Sheriff Rogelio "Roy" Dominguez; Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter; East Chicago Mayor George Pabey; Juana Watson, the senior advisor of Latino Affairs for Gov. Mitch Daniels; Robert Trgovich, senior counsel for the U.S. Attorney's Office; Reginald Brooks of the Department of Homeland Security; East Chicago Schools Superintendent John Flores; and Frank Rivera, executive director of WorkOne Northwest Indiana.
Special awards were given to Times Staff Writer Jerry Davich and Deputy Commander Oscar Martinez of the Lake County Sheriff's Department. The recognition included letters of commendation from Daniels.
The program was sponsored by The Halls of St. George, the Lake County Sheriff's Department, WGVE 88.7FM, Citizens Financial Bank and Sen. Dick Lugar, R-Ind.
