Teachers are pros, too
As a teacher, it's obvious from the comments here that people are divided on whether teachers are overpaid. Fine. But I take exception to the Crown Point person's comment about doctors and lawyers being professionals and teachers being public employees, suggesting we are not professionals. I have a license that allows me to teach, just as a doctor or lawyer needs a license to practice law or medicine. Unlike these professionals, my pay is tied to a tax system. -- Chesterton
Illegal is illegal
Bank Calumet, do you not understand that illegal means illegal? It's criminal that you've decided to grant mortgages to illegal aliens who shouldn't be in this country in the first place. We have laws and rules to govern this country and you've chosen to make up your own rules and laws to follow. What's next? -- Hammond
American dream given away
Cal Bellamy and the Bank of Calumet are traitors to this country. The bank is giving loans to illegal aliens who have spent years in this country using our schools, hospitals, roads, police, fire and military services, without paying a dime. We're supporting them. We're giving them the American dream. -- Highland
Aliens get anything
I cannot believe these illegal immigrants, with no Social Security numbers, are being helped to buy homes. It took my husband and me 30 years to buy a new home, but if you are an alien, you can get anything. Why does our country not give real Americans anything? Stop letting foreigners into our country. -- Hobart
Withdraw your money
How insulting is it that the Bank of Calumet is encouraging illegal immigration? The ones making money from illegals are the banks, businesses for cheap labor, Mexico, and the selfish illegals. The rest of us lose money as tax costs mount for social services, schools, and the cheaper wages and job losses caused by illegals. One thing you can do is take your money out of any bank giving home loans to illegals. -- Merrillville
Poor planning, disaster
The article on the Megabyte Melee where people were trampled rushing to get a $50 used Apple iBook in Richmond shows little thought was put into the plan. If there were only 1,000 iBooks, why not start turning people away when 1,000 people were counted and control their entry into the stadium at 7 a.m? Letting the crowd build up five times beyond available iBooks, and expecting them to enter uncontrolled, is just asking for what happened. -- Munster
Prevent dust mite flight
I agree with the St. John person who wrote about restaurant cleanliness. I also don't like when they vacuum while I am eating. All the dust mites are flying into the air and landing in my food. I don't appreciate that. Also, the bathrooms must be clean. -- Chesterton
Can't believe 9/11 comment
I can't believe the person from Lakes of the Four Seasons who said President Bush was not surprised about 9/11. He/she forgot to point out that President Bush was conveniently out of town, Halliburton was responsible for the jet fuel in the suicide planes, and the Twin Towers were chosen as targets because so many people of color would be murdered. -- Portage
