CALUMET REGION HARLEY OWNERS GROUP n CHAPTER 1232

HISTORY

Family oriented motorcycle enthusiasts club.

Local chapter of National HOG (Harley Owners Group), an affiliate of HOG International.

Promotes motorcycling activities for members and organizes special chapter activities for families and adults.

Members hail from Northwest Indiana, Illinois and beyond.

Sponsoring dealership: Calumet Harley Davidson and Buell in Munster.

Distributes newsletter: Calumet Region Hog Pen.

MISSION: The purpose of the Calumet Region Chapter is to promote motorcycling activities for Harley Owners Group or HOG members by creating special family oriented chapter activities and encouraging participation in existing HOG events.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Calumet Region Harley Owners Group Chapter 1232 will host a HOG chili cook off from 12 to 2 p.m. March 19 at Calumet Harley Davidson and Buell in Munster. Proceeds will be donated to a local charity. The chapter meets twice a month: the second meeting features an educational program and guest speaker. Members also meet for breakfast the fourth Saturday of the month, participate in fundraising and charity events and during the riding season plan weekend and evening cruises. Calumet Region chapter distributes a calendar with club and HOG events, Christian Motorcycle and ABATE activities, swap meets and open houses. Members may participate in events such as the bike blessing and open house April 16 at the dealership, the state rally (this year's event is June 17 to 19 in Terre Haute), Expo for Special Persons in Reynolds in August and the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Poker Run Labor Day weekend.

ADVICE: "Each year there are more and more motorcycle riders out there and we want to make sure as HOG members we ride responsibility and we want the respect of other motorists out there," said chapter director Joseph Miklusak.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED: Calumet Region Harley Owners Group Chapter 1232 holds a social meeting at 6 p.m. the first Monday of the month (March 7) and a business meeting with an educational program or speaker at 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month (March 21) at the dealership. PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW: "We have associate members as young as 14 years old and older members in their 70's. We have nurses, construction workers, iron workers - we cover managers and blue collar and everything in between," Miklusak said.
