Another wonderful summer is upon us and I can hardly wait for this weekend. There are so many things going on in June and this weekend is packed with fun and memorable times ahead.
The weekend kicks off with the wedding of two special friends of Randy's and mine. We have watched these two grow and meld each other's lives together. I just love happily ever afters and they seem to be filling the bill. True love is hard to find these days but I believe they have the real deal.
Congratulations to Rob and Vicki for taking the proverbial plunge into wedded bliss. Randy and I hope you will be very happy!
Next we have the 3rd Annual Firefighter's Summerfest on Saturday. This year for all the motorcycle enthusiasts, the firefighters are kicking off the day with a Poker Run starting at 9am from Woodland Park. Last bike out will be at 11am.
The actual Summerfest will start at 6pm and run to midnight. There is a $5 entrance fee for Summerfest but think about all the good fun you will have that night. You must be 21 years old to enter Summerfest. It will be held outdoors at Woodland Park and is featuring the popular local band, Take-a-Bite for all your dancing pleasure. They will play cover and classical rock music until the wee hours of the night. Tasty brats and hamburgers will be available for purchase as well for all those late night munchies. The food will be expertly grilled by the firefighters themselves. A Vegas Night will also
be a part of Summerfest this year. Take a chance at whatever your fancy is.
Of course another of the highlights of the evening will be the beer garden. The PFD family, courtesy of Clancey's of Portage, will serve cold, frosty libations up again this year. There is a new twist on the beer this year though, you may still purchase glasses of beer or you may purchase one personal mug with unlimited (within reason) refills for $20.
So come on out and join Portage's finest in welcoming summer with a fun filled day at Summerfest.
Last but not least, let us remember Sunday is Father's Day. Wherever your day takes you please remember to thank your dad for all he's done for you. I know I'll be talking to my Dad and letting him know what a difference in my life he's made.
When I think about the fact that a few years ago I heard the word cancer in respect to my father and the fact that I could actually lose him, I did a big double-take on how I listen to all he has to say. And boy does he always have a lot to say. I guess that's where I get my gift of gab. But anyway, after all that and he is cancer free now, I feel very grateful that he is still in my life giving me guidance every day. Happy Fathers Day everyone!
Have a great weekend, Portage!
