Treasured Friends plans outdoor bash
Outdoor Community BBQ Bash is noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at 9111 Sheffield Ave. It's sponsored by Treasured Friends, a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue organization. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 seniors and $3 children and includes meal and beverages. Donations for the fund-raiser still are needed such as paper plates/bowls, trash bags, barbecue sauce, napkins/paper towels, plastic silverware, hamburger, hot dogs, chicken, sausage and hot dog, hamburger and hoagie buns.

50-mile charity cycle ride benefits abused kids
Finnegan's Wake Irish Pub, 1074 Joliet St., is hosting a 50-mile charity motorcyle ride Sunday to benefit abused and neglected children. Registration begins at noon. First 50 riders receive a free goody bag. A $20 donation gives contributor a chance to win a prize for the best poker hand, plus there'll be free food, soft drinks and entertainment by Little Johnny and the Unknown Blues Band. Proceeds benefit the children of Kaleidoscope Inc., a not-for-profit child welfare agency that has served disadvantaged children and their families for more than 30 years. Hazardous waste collection date set
Clean out the garage and basement and make time to bring items to the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 601 Conkey St. Items accepted include oil based paints (no latex), auto and household batteries, pool chemicals, pesticides and fluorescent bulbs. Grimes mystery up for discussion
Mystery Book Discussion is at 12:30 p.m. June 14 at Lake County Public Library's 41st Avenue branch, 3491 W 41st Ave. Readers are invited to the discussion of "The Horse You Came In On," by Martha Grimes. In the mystery, Scotland Yard's Richard Jury is supposed to be on holiday when he receives a call about a murder in America of a British citizen.

MUNSTER
Basic crochet class meets 10 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, June 7 to July 12 at Community Park Social Center, 8751 Lions Club Drive. or 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, June 8 to July 13, in the staff lounge at Town hall, 1005 Ridge Road. Participants learn basic stitches such as chain, single crochet, double crochet and others. Participants will make a potholder and/or sachet while learning crochet stitches and how to read instructions. They will need to bring two different colors of four-ply worsted yarn and crochet hooks in size H and I. Fee is $35 for residents and $40 for nonresidents. Register at Town Hall.

Library program entertains magic fans
Christopher the Magician is at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Lake County Public Library's Munster branch, 8701 Calumet Ave. Christopher takes all ages on an adventure through magic. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult. Advance registration is not necessary.

Church celebrates 65th anniversary
Black Oak Baptist Church marks its 65th anniversary with a celebration Saturday and Sunday at the church, 6502 W. 25th Ave. Cookout is at noon Saturday, followed by an service with music by The Brown Family Singers, The Humbleairs and Deliverance. Gospel concert is at 10 a.m. Sunday. Morning worship will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, followed by a dinner.

WHITING
Yoga in the Park starts this weekend
Outdoor yoga class meets 9 to 10 a.m. Sundays, June 6 to Sept. 26, in front of the pond at Whiting Park, Front Street at Lake Michigan. It's sponsored by Parks and Recreation Department. Eleven instructors teach, with each class a different type of yoga and format. Donations are accepted. Participants should bring a mat and water. Free parking is in Whiting Park lot only. Chileren 16 and younger must be with a parent. All participants must sign a waiver. Free sessions also are 11 a.m. to noon Sunday, July 18 and Aug. 8 in the gazebo at Heritage Park in Munster, Ridge Road and Columbia Avenue.
