Singer Davy Jones uses a good-natured smile when he explains why he's performing at East High School in the Chicago suburbs after having played venues like the London Palladium and the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

"If it's to help a good cause for a worthy organization and I can make the concert date happen, I'm there," said Jones, who will perform an 8 p.m. concert Saturday at East High School in Lockport, Ill.

The proceeds from the $25-per-ticket performance benefits Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Lockport. It will help fund the parish religious education program, which serves more than 600 students, and help pay off the debt for a school.

Jones, who turns 58 in December, was last in the area for a summer concert in Hammond in 1998 and in Chicago in 1999 to appear in the city's Christmas parade. He's also performed in the past at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville. This weekend, he'll perform with his own eight-piece band.

Given the choice between live concerts and television, Jones said his ideal career continues to be "a balance between both."

In addition to touring, he also hosts A&E network's new Sunday night series "Meet the Royals," which profiles a new biography each week of a member of England's most famous family.

Jones said he understands the importance of education, faith and family.

"I have four daughters and two grandchildren," Jones said. "When I give a concert, I want it to be something families can attend and leave with a great memory."
