LAKE STATION -- Fourth annual Joe Kolosci Memorial bike ride/walk and motorcycle poker run will be Sept. 20, rain or shine. Event begins and ends at the cabin in Riverview Park. Registration is at 8 a.m. and events begin at 9 a.m. Bike ride is 25 miles and walk is five miles. Proceeds go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. LOWELL -- Christmas in September of South Lake County is looking for volunteers to help with this year's home rehabilitation project. On Sept. 20, skilled and unskilled volunteers will perform maintenance and repair work at approximately 10 homes in Lowell. Tasks range from painting, cleaning and yard work by unskilled volunteers to the repair of plumbing, electrical and carpentry problems by the numerous skilled trade people that volunteer their time for the annual project. Local businesses and community service clubs and organizations are encouraged to sponsor an individual home by providing both financial support and volunteers for the event. Persons or groups interested in volunteering or contributing to the event can pick up a brochure at Lowell Town Hall, 501 E. Main St.; Lowell Chamber of Commerce, 428 E. CROWN POINT -- September marks the annual observance of Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month. As part of awareness month, Light the Night, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's annual evening walk to support blood cancer research and patient services, will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. CROWN POINT -- St. Jude House has begun a court observation program to analyze how victims of domestic violence and sexual assault are represented in the judicial system. Volunteers are needed for this program. Although college students majoring in criminal justice and the behavioral sciences have been encouraged to volunteer, other volunteers may apply for the required training. Volunteers also track statistics on other cases of sexual assault and domestic violence. Call (219) 662-7066.
