Motorcycle group hogs road with poker run

Third annual Memorial and Poker run, sponsored by the American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association of Indiana, will be June 29 at American Legion Post 485, 7485 Burr St. Sign-up time is 10 with the first bike out at 11 a.m. Single is $15 and double is $20. Proceeds go to Soldiers and Sailors Vet Hospital in Lafayette.

Mystery fans discuss 'You Only Die Twice'

Mystery Book Discussion is at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lake County Public Library's Highland branch, 2841 Jewett St. Readers are invited to discuss "You Only Die Twice" by Edna Buchanan. The corpse of a beautiful woman washes up on a pristine Miami beach. The problem is that the victim, Kaithlin Jordan, was murdered 10 years ago and her husband sits on death row waiting for execution. July's title, "Devil in a Blue Dress" by Walter Mosley, will be available for pick-up after Thursday and will be discussed at 7 p.m. July 24.

Gary Youth Fest kicks off next week

Annual Gary Youth Fest will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 28 at Brunswick Park, Seventh Avenue and Clark Road. Admission is free. Activities include music, prizes, talent show, youth praise dancers, face painting, chess, table games and more. Event is funded by Partnership for a Drug Free Lake County. Registration is required to participate in the talent show and praise entertainment.

Puerto Rican fare featured at feast

Feast of St. John the Baptist will be noon to 2 p.m. at St. Patrick Parish, 3810 Grand Blvd. It will include a typical Puerto Rican luncheon and a dance group. Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets are available in advance.

Horse around dunes at Chellberg Farm

Farmer Jim, assisted by draft horses, works the fields (weather permitting) during Horsing Around: Working the Fields at noon Sunday at Chellberg Farm field in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Whether plowing, discing, cultivating or mowing, draft horses play an important part at the farm. During the three-hour program, Farmer Jim gets Mollie, Linda or Amber harnessed and hitched and heads out to the fields. The farm is on Mineral Springs Road between U.S. 20 and 12.
