GARY -- Baton twirling lessons for youths will be in June at Gary Neighborhood Services-Barbara Wesson Community Center, 300 W. 21st Ave. Baton twirling teaches eye-hand coordination, motor skills and provides recreation for children of all ages. PEO Sisterhood's Chapter AR, Munster, awarded an educational grant from to Robin Spoljoric of Portage. Spoljoric is pursing a master's degree in accounting at Purdue University Calumet and plans to become a certified public accountant. PEO Sisterhood is a philanthropic and educational organization of more than 250,000 women in the United States and Canada interested in bringing to women increased opportunities in higher education. MUNSTER -- Midwest Christian College and Seminary is offering local classes at its main campus at Family Christian Center, 340 W. 45th St. Undergraduate programs offer both associates and bachelor degrees. The graduate programs include curriculum for masters and doctorate degrees. Intense courses are offered in ministry, Christian education, pastoral counseling and Biblical studies. These courses are designed to prepare and further equip students for ministry. Enlighten general Biblical study class will provide a certificate. Future courses will include Christian performing arts. Summer classes will begin Thursday and last six weeks. They include Enlighten (basic Biblical studies) and pastoral counseling, Subidentity, and will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays. Fall classes begin Sept. 8. GRIFFITH -- Griffith High School earned accreditation for 2002-03 from North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. The association recognized the school at its annual meeting in Chicago. Griffith High School joins more than 9,000 schools across a 19-state region that were honored for attaining accreditation. To achieve accreditation, schools must meet quality standards, be evaluated by a team of professionals from outside the school and engage in continuous school improvement focused on increasing student performance. The accreditation process is voluntary and must be renewed each year.
GARY -- Seminar on estate planning for the family is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in Rooms 203-04 in Savannah Center at Indiana University Northwest, 3400 Broadway. It will address issues concerning how lawyers can help families plan their children's education and the importance and benefits of wills or trusts. Cost is $65 or $25 for a season pass holder.
