GLENWOOD -- The 11th annual "Bill McCormick Memorial Golf Outing," sponsored by Bloom/Bloom Trail District 206 Education Foundation, will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Monday at Glenwoodie Golf Course, 19301 South State. Dinner, prizes and raffle will begin at 7 p.m. Cost to sponsor a foursome is $400, dinner only tickets are $40. DOLTON --- Thornton Township High School District 205 is offering its 15th annual summer computer camp for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 7-24 at Thornridge High School, 15000 S. Cottage Grove Ave. Cost is $75. Camp is designed for students to learn how to operate Windows '98 software through hands on experience. No previous computer knowledge or experience is required. DOLTON/RIVERDALE -- School District 148 sponsored a recognition and retirement dinner. The seven staff members who are retiring are: Ed Baumgart, district mentor coordinator, 33 years in education, all in 148; Cheryl Ceko, first grade at Franklin, 35 years in education, 32 in 148; Lynn Larsen, music teacher, 32 years in education, all in 148; Josephy Schissler, principal, Roosevelt Junior High, 34 years in education with 10 in 148; Susan Smith, second grade at Lincoln, 34 years in education, all in 148; Barbara Todd, reading recovery teacher, 40 years in education, 16 in 148; and Angelyn Zmuda, assistant superintendent, formerly principal of Roosevelt Junior High School and also principal of Washington Elementary, 40 years in education with 36 years in 148. Recognized for years of service were: Marge Asmus, Virginia Gajownik, Diane Godbout, Rebecca Griffith and Joseph Schissler for 10 years; Ann Hyzy, Patricia Robertson, Terry Service and Colleen Stachulak for 15 years; Charles Keber
for 30 years, and Angelyn Zmuda and Marcia Zmuda for 35 years.
CHICAGO -- The 23rd annual Carey Rose Winski Dance Scholarship Competition will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 in Lou Conte Dance Studio-Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, 1147 W. Jackson Blvd. The competition is open to any dancer male or female in the United States between the ages of 13 and 18. Scholarships totaling $1500 are given to the winners. The winners choose the schools for their further training. Competitors participate in a one hour classical warm up and perform two three minute solos, one is classical ballet (en pointe for girls) and one in any eclectic style (jazz, modern, character, etc.) Application forms with detailed rules, regulations and travel information may be obtained by writing to the Carey Rose Winski Memorial Foundation, Inc., 69 Woodley Road, Winnetka, Ill., 60093.
CHICAGO HEIGHTS -- Registration for fall semester at Prairie State College will take place through Aug. 13 and again Aug. 18-20. New and continuing students can register from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday in the admissions office of the main campus, 202 S. Halsted St. Continuing students can register by phone through Touchtone registration by calling (708) 755-CLAS. Students can access Touchtone registration from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Classes for the fall semester begin Aug. 25. The college's Late Start classes, which run 12 weeks instead of the regular 16, begin Sept. 22. Sections are scheduled during weekdays, evenings and Saturdays. Offerings also include numerous online courses and telecourses. Tuition and fees for in-district residents and employees of in-district companies are $70 per credit hour. MUNSTER -- Midwest Christian College and Seminary offers classes at its main campus located at Family Christian Center, 340 W. 45th St. The college's mission is to provide students with a strong Christian college education in and out of the classroom. Undergraduate programs offer both associate and bachelor degrees. The graduate programs include curriculum for master and doctorate degrees. Intense courses are offered in Ministry, Christian Education, Pastoral Counseling and Biblical studies. Summer classes begin June 19 for a six-week session. Classes being offered in the summer include Enlighten (basic Biblical studies) and pastoral counseling and will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays. Fall classes begin Sept. 8. UNIVERSITY PARK -- Governors State University, Governors Highway and Stuenkel Road., is host to Project HOPE. This project urges youth to "Get Real About Education" at a workshop for elementary, middle and high school students.
