ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Carol Webb is the school to career liaison at Hanover Central Junior Senior High School. She directs the job shadowing and internship programs that provide students with first-hand experience in a career field. Webb sets up agreements for employers to become mentors in the internship program. She places students and meets with them regularly and periodically with the employer to assure the worksite provides a positive learning experience. She also encourages students to take part in job shadowing, an opportunity for a realistic view in a career field being considered. Webb assists students with internship portfolios that document their skills and experiences and assists them in attaining certificates of technical achievement for skills learned on the job. Additionally, she sets up career seminars and other educational opportunities at post secondary institutions. Webb coordinates Reality Store each spring for eighth-graders and high school juniors. The financial

exercise allows students to choose a career, lifestyle and envision their life at age 28. These decisions are key to budgeting a month's salary to cover expenses. "They realize how fast money goes. It gives them a dose of reality," she said. Webb has contracted with Wittenberg Village in Crown Point to sponsor five students in a summer certified nursing assistant program and place them upon successful completion of the course. She also is networking with Purdue University and area hospitals. Webb serves on the school's vocational committee.

ADVICE: "Don't let anyone deter you or discourage you from what you want to do in life. Go for it … no matter what."

WHY I'M IN EDUCATION: "I didn't have this (school to career program) when I was growing up. I want to help the kids make an informed decision when they pick a career. I just love it."
