Fairgrounds set scene for ‘Stories in the Park'

Stories in the Park will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, July 2 and 9 at Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. All ages are welcome. Groups of ten or more need to call the Youth Services Department at Crown Point Community Library to schedule at least a week in advance. Participants should bring a blanket or lawn chairs, and will meet in the shelter in case of rain.

Church serves up spaghetti dinner

Spaghetti Dinner will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 8061 E. Lincoln Highway. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, drink and ice cream cup. Cost is $6 for adults.

Red Cross looking for blood donors

A blood drive conducted by the American Red Cross will be from 2:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hobart Community Center, 45 E. Cleveland.

Lake Station

Garage sale benefits church

The Ladies Sodality of St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station, will host a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot behind the church. Games, toys, household articles, antiques, collectibles, furniture and tools will be sold at the fund-raiser. Hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be available. People wishing to donate articles should bring them to the parking lot at 8 a.m. Proceeds from the sale will go to the church.

Lowell

Hunters Education Course available

Lake County Parks Department will sponsor a free hunter's education course from 6 to 9 p.m. June 27 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 28 at Lowell Community Center, 151 N. Freemont St. Completion of the course, resulting in a hunter education certificate, is required for all hunters born after Dec. 31, 1986. It also is required for any older hunter who wishes to hunt out-of-state or participate in any special state of Indiana hunts. Attendance at both sessions and passing a test is required. Registration is required.

Merrillville

Library offers ‘Harry Potter Fun'

Lake County Public Library, 1919 W. 81st Ave., will present the children's program, "Harry Potter Fun," at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. today. Children 6 to 11 years old will play games including "Whomping Willow," "Trivia" and "Quidditch." Snacks will be enjoyed in Diagon Alley.

Snakes, tarantula bring program to life

Lake County Public Library, 1919 W. 81st Ave., will host "Snakes Alive" at 2 p.m. Thursday. Children, age 2 and older, will hear stories and participate in many activities about snakes, spiders and other creatures that crawl and slither. A pet snake and tarantula will visit this program.

Master gardener speaks on landscaping tonight

Jean Starr, master gardener and gardening columnist for The Times, will present the adult program, "Gardening Series n Color in Landscape," at 7 tonight at Lake County Public Library, 1919 W. 81st Ave. Master gardeners can achieve advance training hours by attending this program.
